Edie Falco is up for another shift on Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.” The half-hour dramedy about an ER nurse with addiction problems has been renewed for a sixth season by the pay cabler, which co-produces the series with Lionsgate TV.
The series is wrapping up a solid fifth season run this month, its first under the leadership of showrunner Clyde Phillips, who took the reins from creators Liz Brixius and Linda Wallem.
“This show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life,” Showtime entertainment prexy David Nevins said.
Per Showtime, “Nurse Jackie” has averaged 3.1 million viewers a week across all of its linear and VOD plays. That marks a 10% gain from season four. In addition to Falco, series stars Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith and Peter Facinelli.
