Blumhouse Productions has another tale of terror on the way to the big screen. Deadline reports that Sinister 2 director Ciaran Foy is set to helm The Shee, an original thriller set in 1960s Ireland. According to the outlet, the story follows “a troubled young woman who must confront her violent and tragic past when she travels to a remote island.”
In Irish and Scottish mythology, the Shee (or Sidhe) are a supernatural fairy race whose invisible world overlaps our own. Literally translated to mean “people of the mounds,” it is said that the Shee dwell beneath the Earth and have been known to take on a variety of different forms. The Banshee (Bean Sídhe), for instance, is famously said to appear in the form of a wailing woman, her presence a portent of coming death.
Prior to helming Sinister 2, Ciaran Foy directed 2012’s Citadel.
Jason Blum is set to produce The Shee alongside Alan Maher’s Roads Entertainment and Foy’s Shadow Aspect banner.
