An unusual strategy for satellite radio was spoiled early after Best Buy briefly posted a listing (since pulled) for the Sirius XM Lynx SXi1. The portable radio runs a heavily customized version of Android and, accordingly, has some of the behavior of a smartphone. It uses a multi-touch screen with extra Android keys as its controls and Wi-Fi to share the radio connection.
The Lynx has full DVR-style live pausing, rewinding, and recording. Listeners can also catch up to existing shows on demand with a Start Now feature. A microSDHC slot helps get media on to and off of the radio, which can last for 30 hours at a time on battery power alone.
Best Buy didn’t give an indication of the release date for the new receiver, although it did give away that the device should go on sale for $250 when it’s ready.
