Prospective users of Windows 10 may have to wait before being able to use the next version of Microsoft’s operating system, the software company has revealed. A blog post advises that it will be rolling out Windows 10 to Windows Insiders first on July 29, then reserved systems will be notified that they can upgrade in waves after the launch date, with subsequent waves increasing in size.

As part of the installation for home users, the notification will be offered once “our compatibility work confirms you will have a great experience, and Windows 10 has been downloaded.” Customers with systems not quite ready for the free Windows 10 upgrade will be offered more details during the upgrade experience, with contact details provided in the event a device manufacturer or application producer needs to be contacted.

Business customers will be able to get Windows 10 Pro from July 29 alongside the Windows 10 Home launch. Larger companies using volume licensing will be able to start downloading Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education from the Volume Licensing Service Center from August 1.

In the same blog post, Microsoft reveals it has yet to provide a build of Windows 10 to device producers to load onto notebooks, tablets, and desktop systems. Following the OEM build release, Microsoft plans to distribute a build to retailers around the world, so customers acquiring existing Windows 8.1 systems can receive assistance upgrading to Windows 10 at the time of purchase.
