Owners of Sony’s PS Vita will soon be able to watch streams of PlayStation 4 games on the handheld console, the company has revealed. Part of a number of announcements at Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show event, the “Live from PlayStation” app will reach the PS Vita in a future update, and will let the user watch not only a live stream of a local PlayStation 4, but also gameplay from other streaming consoles.
The PS Vita will also include the option to customize the homescreen with update 3.30, reports Slashgear, with themes and characters from various games able to be applied. A pink and white version of the console will also go on sale in Japan from the 13th of November priced at 18,980 yen ($180), though it is unclear if it will be made available in other markets in the future.
For the PlayStation 4, Sony revealed another model of the console. The Dragon Quest Metallic Slime edition will be colored silver with graphics showing the Slime from the long-running game series, as well as a “melting Slime” as a USB cover. Ubergizmo writes that the silver console is expected to go on sale sometime in the spring, to coincide with the next installment of the game franchise, though a foreign release date is unknown.
Sony also revealed 44 games for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita at the event, as well as another prototype game for the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset. Titled Summer Lesson, the game showed that the headset could interpret head gestures, with nodding and shaking of the head to represent “yes” and “no” responses, though Sony declined to elaborate further aside from the brief video demonstration.
