Sony Japan has just released a teaser video touting a new Dot Switch feature or technology. It may be related to smartphones interacting with home entertainment gear such as TVs and receivers. Dot Switch is being dubbed as “new entertainment from Sony” in the clip.
Dot Switch tech could involve a new type of TV panel with switching pixel, such as OLED, judging purely by the name. However, the images in the video suggest an Xperia smartphone will be used to control and interact with gear. With this theme common at CES among other manufacturers, this could fit in with the trend. Samsung and LG, at the very least, showed how their ecosystem of devices would communicate and send information and/or content to one another, including connected TVs, tablets and phones and even appliances such as fridges, washers and dryers.
Either way, Sony promises to reveal all on February 21, which is about a week before the phone-biased Mobile World Congress show in Europe.
