Steven Spielberg and his star, Daniel Day-Lewis, attended a screening of “Lincoln” at the Capitol Visitors Center on Dec. 19. Spielberg said that he was honored to see Senators from ”both sides sitting in the same room watching a president put the people out in front of the abyss.”
The Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that he hoped the messages in the film would hit home with both his fellow Senators and the American people generally: “I hope everybody who shared his anti-political mood will go out there and see ‘Lincoln.’ The movie portrays a nobility of politics in exactly the right way.”
Deadlinereported that the only breakthrough in the currently difficult relations on the Hill was the Senate Rules Committee waiving its usual policies in order to allow popcorn for the screening.
