The first look at the Good Wife spin-off is finally here! The Good Fight picks up one year after the events of The Good Wife‘s final May 8 broadcast, and “things will get nasty,” according to the show’s first teaser trailer, which debuted Sunday. Christine Baranski will reprise her role as Diane Lockhart in the CBS All Access spin-off, which also stars former Good Wife star Cush Jumbo as Lucca Quinn.
“Practicing the law, you don’t go on instinct, you wait, you listen and watch,” Lockhart foreshadows in the trailer. “Eventually everyone reveals themselves.”
The 30-second teaser also provides viewers with a juicy detail about a new lawyer in the Good universe: Maia Sindell (Game of Thrones‘ Rose Leslie). As seen in the clip, Maia has an intimate bedroom scene with another woman before hopping into a steamy shower.
On Friday it was revealed that Maia, who is the goddaughter of Lockhart, is a lesbian. Entertainment Weekly released an exclusive first look of Maia and her longtime lawyer girlfriend Amy (Helene Yorke). In the new series, an enormous financial scam has destroyed Maia’s reputation and wiped out her mentor Diane’s savings, according to EW. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, Maia and Diane join Lucca at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.
Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King signed on to co-write the first episode of the series that will air on CBS and will serve as showrunners for the rest of the series, which will be broadcast on CBS All Access. Though Julianna Margulies and Chris Noth are not expected to make cameos, Delroy Lindo, Sarah Steele, Paul Guilfoyle, Bernadette Peters, Justin Bartha and Erica Tazel will round out the ensemble cast.
In November, Good Wife star Archie Panjabi had fans speculating about the potential return of her beloved, tough-talking character on the spin-off, but nothing has been officially announced. The Good Fight will make its debut on CBS All-Access on Feb. 19.
