Spotify has sent out more invitations to a special event on April 18. Referring to the New York City gathering only as a “press briefing,” the invitation has no clues as to the actual substance. Founder Daniel Ek will headline the event just after he finishes his Ad Age keynote.
Until now, the company has only had one event of the type since launching in the US. The gathering in November saw it establish an app platform that extends the desktop version of the music streaming software. Most other additions have either come at other companies’ events, like Facebook’s, or without fanfare.
One option may be a tablet-native app. Spotify has said an iPad app is a priority, but it has been mostly silent since mentioning this right after the desktop app event. It’s unknown whether the music service would consider tablet updates important enough to hold a dedicated event, and it may be a more substantial addition relating to the service than a client.
