Staples has partnered with the reselling service Gazelle, known for its direct used device resale system, to offer its customers trade-ins for their electronics. The Staples Tech Trade-In program targets home users and small-businesses, and offers them gift cards for their used electronics. The cards are redeemable at any Staples store, but not online.
Staples is offering trade-ins for more than 20 product categories. To trade in a device, a user must go to a dedicated Staples site, answer a few questions and then ship the product to a recycling center. Shipping is free. After the condition of the product is verified, the user will receive an e-mail with the gift card information.
This new program joins an in-store recycling program that the office supply retailer already is running. The company has set a goal of recycling 40 million pounds of electronics by 2020.
