Starbucks today announced that it is accepting payments for goods and services at 7,000 of its stores via the Square Wallet application. The Square Wallet app, which is available for Android and iOS, is linked to a debit or credit card.
Device owners open the app, tap “pay here” and then have the Starbucks employee scan the QR code that appears on the device’s screen. The customer’s card is charged and they receive a digital receipt. The process isn’t too different from paying through Starbucks’ own mobile payment app.
is separate from the Square credit card readers, which are meant to help small businesses accept credit card payments. Square Wallet is interactive, and will point Android and iOS users to other local businesses that accept Square Wallet.
