Starz will release the first five episodes of its new reality series, “The Chair,” in advance of the scheduled airing on the network. The episodes will be available to Starz subscribers on Starz Play and Starz On Demand beginning Sept. 6, with the series premiering on the network the same day at 11 p.m.
“Starz is making the first five episodes of ‘The Chair’ available on the same day of the television premiere of the series to reach a young adult population that is in the vanguard of ‘bingeing’ on shows as their preferred method of viewing,” said Chris Albrecht, Starz CEO. “Starz is always interested in moving the premium programming model forward with strategies that are attuned to the projected audience demos of the show. We are once again utilizing an exposure tactic that has intrigued us since we first did it with last year’s limited series ‘Dancing on the Edge.’”
The series, created by “Projected Greenlight” EP and “Good Will Hunting” co-producer Chris Moore, follows first-time directors Shane Dawson and Anna Martemucci as they individually navigate the production of their first film, both using the same script, same budget and shooting in the same city, Pittsburgh, Penn., competing for a prize of $250,000.
Actor Zachary Quinto and his producing partners Corey Moosa and Neal Dodson will join Moore and the script’s original producer, Josh Shader, in serving as mentors to the directors.
Moore and Anthony B. Sacco serve as EPs for “The Chair,” which will air Saturdays at 11 p.m. from Sept. 6 to Oct. 4, and Saturdays at 10 p.m. for the remainder of the season.
