T-Mobile is offering a new fee-based caller ID service to its customers. Called “Name ID”, a subscriber can see see who is calling, even if the caller is not in the subscriber’s address book. The service costs $4 per month, with a free 10-day trial on selected new phones.
Based on technology from Cequint, Name ID will show the caller’s name, their phone number, and the city from which they are calling.
“Before Name ID for cell phone, deciding whether or not to answer an unfamiliar call often left customers guessing,” senior vice president of T-Mobile USA Brad Duea said in a statement. “Now Name ID allows T-Mobile customers to more easily determine which calls to answer.”
Caller ID has been available on landline phone for many years. T-Mobile will be the first of the four major carriers to have it but is expected to be joined by others.
