Titan Comics is planning a comic book series based on NBC’s The Blacklist, The Hollywood Reporter has reported. The new comic book series will be developed in conjunction with the creative team behind the Sony Pictures Television series.
Writer Nicole Phillips and artist Beni Lobel (who has previously worked on DC Entertainment’s adaptations of The Vampire Diaries and Fringe, as well as Constantine and IDW’s True Blood series) are responsible for new stories featuring Spader’s master criminal Red Reddington, as well as Megan Boone’s Elizabeth Keen, Diego Klattenhoff’s Donald Ressler and other characters from the show. Covers for the series will be provided by Alice X. Zhang, who has previously worked on Titan’s Doctor Who comic properties.
David Leach, who’ll edit the new monthly series, called the comic book “a true extension of the television series, promising a glimpse at “new dimensions of the characters that have captured the audiences worldwide.” The first six-issue storyline, he said, will give fans “a journey deep into the dark world of international espionage, conspiracies and intrigue on a global scale” — which, really, sounds like everything viewers have come to expect from the show itself.
The Blacklist No. 1 will launch July 22 in comic book stores and digitally. The Blacklist television series returns to NBC April 23 at 9 p.m.
