Florence Foster Jenkins tells the inspirational true story of the eponymous New York heiress (Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer, despite having a dreadful voice. Hugh Grant plays St. Clair Bayfield, an English actor who tried to keep the truth about Florence’s voice away from her. The film celebrates the human spirit, the power of music and the passion of amateurs everywhere.
With a screenplay by Nicholas Martin (“Midsomer Murders”), the hilarious and inspiring Florence Foster Jenkins opens in UK cinemas nationwide on May 6. Although Paramount Pictures will give the film a theatrical U.S. release, no date is yet set.
