Writer/producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has confirmed that the script for the premiere episode of the Netflix series based on The Witcher franchise is complete.
Taken from the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, which itself inspired the critically acclaimed and much-loved video game series of the same name, the project is looking to give Netflix a big international fantasy drama on a scale potentially akin to Game of Thrones.
The story follows Geralt of Riva, a mutated, monster-hunting witcher who becomes a father figure and caregiver to Ciri – a child of destiny whose fate is entwined with Geralt’s. It has been confirmed that while the books will serve as source material, the games will have a big impact – especially on the character development of Geralt.
Further information is scarce at this point, and while the series does seem to be moving along at a fast clip, Hissrich says:\
“No one is rushing me. Everyone involved in the process values quality over quickness.”
No potential filming start date has yet been announced.
