The Blake Lively-led espionage thriller The Rhythm Section has shut down production due to a hand injury sustained by the actress while filming a stunt in Dublin in December.
Production was halted temporarily after the injury, but Lively reportedly needs a second surgery to fully heal and will require five months of recovery time – as a result, the production is now off and crew have reportedly been told to find other work.
Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale) helms the project and there is no date set for the production to resume as yet. At present just under half of the film has been shot.
James Bond film series producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and their EON Productions are behind the project and confirmed the shutdown in a statement:
“Hiatus on the production of The Rhythm Section has been extended due to an ongoing issue with Blake Lively’s hand injury sustained while filming an action sequence on the action thriller at the end of last year.”
Based on the ‘Stephanie Patrick’ novels by Mark Burnell, Lively plays a woman on a path of self-destruction after the death of her family in an airplane crash. Learning the crash was not an accident, her anger awakens a new sense of purpose and she rises to uncover the truth by adopting the identity of an assassin to track down those responsible.
The Rhythm Section was planned to hit cinemas on February 22nd 2019. That will likely change now.
