Production has kicked off on Shaft, the upcoming Netflix original film continuation of the classic 1970s franchise and to mark the occasion a photo is out of three generations of Shaft family members.
Isaac Hayes III, grandson of the music icon who wrote the original 1971 film’s theme, appears in the shot alongside the original John Shaft himself Richard Roundtree, his character’s nephewplayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the 2000 film, and the nephew’s estranged son whom Jessie T. Usher plays in this film.
In the new take, going by the working title Son of Shaft Usher’s ‘Shaft’ FBI agent and cyber expert who is forced to team up with his old school father on a case. Tim Story will direct the film from a script by Kenya Barris.
The new Shaft is expected to debut June 2019.
