Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to make his feature directing debut on the autobiographical musical Tick, Tick…Boom! at Imagine Entertainment.
The film, based on the stage production of the same name, explores the life of Jonathan Larson, an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice just as he first performed a solo stage work he wrote by the name of Rent in 1990.
Larson ultimately died in 1996 and playwright David Auburn revised the work into the famed Off-Broadway musical in 2001. Miranda starred in a 2014 stage production of Tick, Tick…Boom! and will also produce the film, alongside Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Julie Oh.
Playwright Steven Levenson will write the screen adaptation. Miranda’s own musical In the Heights is set to get the feature treatment as well.
