Time Warner has announced it would be expanding its usage-based broadband policy to all of its systems save those in Hawaii. The Essentials Broadband policy, launched in Texas this past February, charges users on a per-gigabyte basis when they exceed a certain threshold. The policy will be rolled out to all Time Warner Cable systems by the end of this year.
As Light Reading Cable reports, the new Essentials policy gives customers a 5GB per month limit. Customers exceeding that figure will be charged $1 per GB above the threshold, up to $25 per month.
The policy comes with a 60-day grace period before overage charges are assessed, and customers who opt in for the policy are able to opt out when they choose as well. Time Warner Cable will be applying the Essentials policy to its Standard, Basic, and Lite broadband tiers. The Turbo and Docsis 3.0 tiers will remain cap-free.
