Toshiba has unveiled four new business notebooks, each based Intel’s latest Ivy Bdrige third-generation Core-series CPUs. The lineup starts with the Portégé Z930 ultrabook, 13.3-inch Portégé R930, 14-inch Tecra R940 and 15.6-inch Tecra R950.
All include newly developed Toshiba Smart Client Manager that’s powered by Tivoli from IBM. The tool aids IT managers to adjust the settings of each deployed notebook on a network. Toshiba Power Management gives the ability to distribute and optimize power management settings and monitor consumption levels. Toshiba Patch Management makes updating the notebooks to the latest security and software versions fster. Toshiba Security lets admins control access by preventing a PC from starting up.
The Portégé Z930 ultrabook is marketed as the world’s lightest 13-inch device in its class. It weighs less than 2.5lbs in a magnesium alloy chassis that’s 15.9mm thick. It gets Ivy Bridge ULV Core i5 and Core i7 chips along with a solid state drive that helps it to achieve at least eight hours of claimed battery life. A fingerprint reader is built-in as well. It is now available, priced from $1,249.
The Portégé R930 is said to be the lightest of its kind with an integrated DVD drive. It weighs 3lbs and is one inch thick and is available with full-power Core i5 and Core i7 Ivy Bridge chips. It otherwise has two USB 3.0 ports and Bluetooth 3.0. There is an optional SSD as well. Pricing starts at $1,399 for the business models.
The Tecra R940 and R950 are basically different-sized models of the same notebook. Either weighs under 4.5lbs and is just an inch thick. The LED-backlit widescreen HD displays get the updated processors along with more memory and improved graphics. There is also a two-megapixel webcam in the frame and a spill-resistant keyboard, fingerprint reader, and Toshiba’s USB Sleep & Charge technology. They are now available, with prices starting at $1,199 and $1,179.
