Twitter has struck a deal with Google that will allow Google to publish tweets in search results. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the deal, says Google will have access to Twitter’s “firehose” — or all the data generated by Twitter’s 284 million users.
Google will be able to publish results with tweets in real time. Google used to display tweets in search results between 2009 and 2011, but Twitter allowed the deal to lapse. The company has had a change of heart as it is under pressure from investors to increase its user base, which has grown slowly over the last two quarters.
The two companies have not announced the deal yet and did not comment on Bloomberg’s article.
