TwitPic has announced that it will cease operations on September 25. The company made the decision after being contacted by Twitter’s legal team.
TwitPic said Twitter demanded that it abandon its trademarked application or risk losing access to Twitter’s API. TwitPic has been around since 2008, and was one of the first tools for sharing photos within Twitter.
TwitPic called the decision to shut down “unexpected and hard.” The company will soon release a tool that will allow users to download all their content from TwitPic before the September 25 closure.
