RIM gave an early look at the next wave of its social networking side on Thursday with the Beta Zone launch of Twitter for BlackBerry 2.0. The new app is more in line with the newest Android and iPhone apps with a simpler interface that speeds up searches. A single search box will turn up keywords, local searches, people, and trends.
BlackBerry 6 gets an extra benefit with universal search, since Twitter search can now take the results into the OS-wide search and not just the app. Writing Twitter updates is easier through an always-on compose button that can start a new message anywhere in the app.
The beta is free for Beta Zone members. RIM hasn’t given a timetable for when the finished version will go public.
