Whether the it isĀ is a symptom of colder post-holiday fatigue, or fallout from recent PR and regulation challenges, Uber plans to combat it with price cuts and guaranteed driver earnings. The program will be implemented in 48 cities across the United States.
The announcement on Uber’s blog included some stats from Chicago, “the cheapest of all of Uber’s US Cities,” showing a lowering of fares for riders, while trips per hour and earnings for drivers went up when comparing December of 2013 with December of 2014. Uber says it is confident that price cuts work, but is hoping the combination of price cuts for customers with guaranteed income for the drivers will reduce wait times, while increasing ridership.
Details for how the guaranteed earnings program will work have not yet been announced.
