US Cellular will start offering the LG Optimus U and LG Apex smartphones on prepaid plans for the first time, starting April 15. The Optimus U will cost $200 and the Apex $250, and both are powered by Android, with the former sporting the 2.2 version of the OS, the latter 2.1.
Either phone can be paired with a $60 per month plan that includes unlimited messaging, 2GB of data and 450 minutes of talk time. Buyers can also pay $70 for the same amount of data along with unlimited voice minutes and messaging.
The Optimus U has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and Swype’s custom keyboard already installed. It ships with a 2GB microSD card and has room for up to a 32GB microSDHC option. The Apex has a touchscreen of the same size but gets haptic feedback and a slide-out hardware QWERTY keyboard. It carries a three-megapixel camera.
