USA Network has ordered six episodes of the partially-scripted comedy, “Donny!” starring advertising exec and television personality Donny Deutsch. The cable network made the announcement of their latest scripted series Thursday at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.
The half-hour satirical comedy, described as a “Curb Your Enthusiasm”-style series, takes a look at modern American media, wealth and romance through the perspective of Deutsch’s “hyper-imagined” character, which is based off his real-life self. Deutsch, the character, hosts a daytime talk show, aptly named “Donny!” but lives a very different life than the perfect one he portrays on camera, especially when it comes to dating, as a single dad.
“The juxtaposition of how Donny portrays his public and personal life in this series is hilarious, and the storylines are a real wink for the viewers, showing that despite anyone’s profile or success, we all deal with the same issues,” said Chris McCumber, president of USA Network.
