Verizon Wireless has gone ahead and released the Android 2.3 software upgrade for the Droid 2 Global. The 103MB update will upgrade the OS from version 2.4.330 to 4.5.600 and brings with it customizable contacts and app icons at the bottom of the home screen. Users will also get the option to place three links to apps of their choosing next to the App Launcher.
Otherwise, the user interface is slightly different as well, and App Groups the user has control over have been added. The Download Manager App is likewise new and users can now encrypt data stored on the SD card as well as on the phone’s memory. Battery life improvements while using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth as well as stability fixes round out the improvements in the new OS.
Users can now perform the manual upgrade or wait for Verizon to send out the OTA invite
