Last year, Verizon said that it’d begin pushing a small number of unlimited data customers that used an “extraordinary” amount of data onto new plans. Now a second round of migrations is getting underway.
Verizon is now reaching out customers with unlimited data data plans and an “extraordinary” amount of data usage, telling them that they’ll need to move to a Verizon Plan with a limited amount of high-speed data. Verizon has confirmed that it considers an average of 200GB of data usage in a single month to be “extraordinary.”
If you’re one of the Verizon customers with an unlimited data plan and “extraordinary” usage, expect to receive a letter soon. You’ll have until February 16 to move to a new Verizon Plan or have your line disconnected.
This news is probably disappointing to any heavy data users on Verizon that are still clinging to an unlimited data plan, but it’s also not terribly surprising. As I mentioned before, Verizon migrated unlimited customers with “extraordinary” usage last year, and now it’s making a second pass. So if you’re using hundreds of gigs of data per month on a Verizon unlimited plan, you may want to begin looking at other plans.
