Even with the restructuring of ownership, Verizon Wireless has managed to improve its LTE network in a number of cities. The carrier has reportedly increased the amount of bandwidth available to customers, with some markets seeing Verizon tripling its LTE capacity, thanks to its earlier $3.9 billion wireless spectrum purchase.
Areas of New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Seattle, Washington D.C. have seen the highest speed increases, reports GigaOM, with parts of San Francisco and Los Angeles gaining a capacity boost of 150 percent. Once completed, this will in theory give Verizon the ability to support more connections at the higher speeds, as well as bringing customer connections closer to the 80Mbps spotted being tested in New York in October. The way the newtork has been set up paves the way for mobile connections reaching 100Mbps or even 150Mbps, claims the report.
Verizon earlier plans to roll out Voice-over-LTE will no longer launch before the end of 2013. PhoneScoop notes that a recent press release celebrating the third anniversary of the LTE network states that VoLTE will be available to users “next year.”
