History has ordered a twenty episode sixth season of its historical drama Vikings, the order coming in before the show’s fifth season has even premiered.
Production on the sixth season is slated to begin this fall in Ireland with Winnick making her directorial debut on one episode.
The fourth season of Vikings averaged 7.8 million viewers per episode and is a top-five drama across ad supported cable.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins this coming season as Bishop Heahmund. Regulars Katheryn Winnick, Gustaf Skarsgard, Alexander Ludwig, Alex Høgh Andersen, Jordan Smith and Marco Iaso all return.
The first half of the fifth season will premiere on November 29th, with the second half airing in 2018.
