Twitter-owned Vine says its application and looping videos will live on even though the social network itself is shutting down.
In January, the company plans to transition the Vine app as it is today to a simpler Vine Camera. The camera will serve as a tool for recording and making the six-second looping videos for which Vine is famous.
People will be able to save those loops and share them with other social networks. The company says it will help people transition their Vine followers to Twitter, which will support the looping videos.
All users’ videos will remain on the vine.co web site. Twitter originally announced plans to shut down Vine in October.
