British cable service Virgin Media has updated its Virgin TV Anywhere service, by introducing an Android app to compliment its existing iOS app. At the same time, the company is adding nine more live channels to the service for both platforms, as it continues to compete against dominant broadcaster Sky and its similar Sky Go service.
Virgin TV Anywhere lets subscribers of its TiVo-based service to view 90 channels online through a browser, and 67 through smartphones and tablets, with Virgin Media claiming that 39 of these channels are not available on Sky Go. New deals has allowed it to stream the entire range of UKTV channels, though currently the app will only work over Wi-Fi and not cellular networks. The app also includes TiVo recommendations, and can be used as a gesture-based remote control when used on the same network as the TiVo box itself.
The Android version is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note, Sony Xperia Tablet Z, HTC One, Google Nexus devices, and a number of others, with more said to be added in the near future.
