UK carrier Vodafone has released a second version of its Sure Signal box. The refreshed 3G-broadcasting femtocell compacts the internals from the router-sized original into a pass-through plug design, which not only takes up as much space as a plug-in air freshener, but also allows the power socket to be completely usable by other devices.
Just as the previous version, Sure Signal requires a connection to the Internet at 1Mbps or higher in order to function, as it passes calls received through the data connection to Vodafone’s servers before routing the call normally. Customers can register up to 32 Vodafone-specific numbers onto a Sure Signal Box, and the device is capable of routing eight simultaneous phone calls.
The Sure Signal Version 2 is on sale for £100 ($160) as a stand-alone item, though it is possible to get a reduction when taking out a new contract with the company.
