Carmaker Volvo has published a new promotional video (below), demonstrating how Apple’s CarPlay will be integrated into its future car models. Seven apps are shown, including Phone, Music, Maps, Messages, Now Playing, Podcasts, and Spotify. In related press material Volvo notes that integration will be reserved for vehicles supporting its new Scalable Product Architecture, beginning with the XC90 SUV.
Drivers will initially have to connect a device to a car through a Lightning cable, although Wi-Fi support is promised later. The touchscreens iPhones will connect to will also handle various car-specific functions, such as adjusting cabin temperature.
The XC90 is scheduled to debut later this year. Volvo hasn’t identified the full range of models it expects to equip with CarPlay.
