Vudu has announced that its streaming movie content will now be accessible from Sony’s PlayStation 3 game consoles. Beginning next week, users with PlayStation Network accounts can download the Vudu application from the media category in the PlayStation Store. The PS3 utility provides a similar interface to the Vudu app already available for supported TVs and set-top boxes.

PS3 owners will be able to browse Vudu’s entire library, which contains over 4,000 HD titles. The game console supports Dolby Digital Plus 5.1-channel audio along with  the 1080P streaming video.

The company  will be releasing an  updated version of its user interface, which will support motion-based input from devices such as the PlayStation Move controller. The UI brings further optimization for wide-format TVs, along with a tabbed layout for easier navigation between menus. Users can also access additional content such as personalized recommendations and filtering tools.

The Vudu app for PS3 is set to be released on November 23, while the revised UI will be brought to all platforms, including the Boxee client for Mac and Windows computers, sometime before the end of the year.

Pricing starts at $2 for certain two-day rentals in SD quality. New customers receive a $6 credit toward their first rentals.
