Following an overwhelmingly successful UK opening earlier this month, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the rights to the Paddington sequel and is set to release the film in North American cinemas on January 12th 2018.
Paddington 2 continues the story of the enduringly popular little bear in the trademark blue coat and red hat that touched audiences worldwide. Along with universally positive reviews, in the UK the film is outpacing its predecessor’s opening weekend numbers by over 60%.
The studio acquired distribution rights for the film in the U.S. and Canada from StudioCanal and The Weinstein Company who has been trying to find a buyer for the film’s domestic rights before it files for bankruptcy protection.
