Western Digital has updated its WD TV Remote app for WD TV Live and WD TV Live Hub users. The company will soon be adding Android support to the app as well as iOS devices . WD also announced it will be adding new streaming services for WD TV users, including VUDU and several sports networks.
The updated free WD TV Remote app now includes a gesture pad to help navigate menu screens and services with touch gestures, as well as QWERTY keyboard support for text entry and search functionality. The app now can also control several different WD TV players simultaneously. Language support has been enhanced and now includes English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Russian, and Portuguese.
WD has added six new media services for its customers. Vudu, which offers a library of movie and TV titles is streamed in the HDX video format, which provides 1080p video and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 audio. Sports fans can now access the SEC (South East Conference) Digital Network and the XOS College Sports Network. XOS is a library of sporting events for the past 75 years. Other added services include the short film library of Comedy Time, the independent film library of SnagFilms, and Watch Mojo.
The WD TV Remote App update for iOS is available now. Support for Android devices is in a yet unspecified future period. The added streaming services are available now. Vudu costs $2 or more for each rental, but WD is offering a one time $5 credit to subscribers. The other services are free of charge.
