Facebook-owned WhatsApp this week rolled out new features to its messaging application.
Specifically, users can now write or draw on photos and videos, as well as add emoji to posts to give them character. The editing tools pop up automatically every time users choose to share an image or video.
WhatsApp also now supports the user-facing flash on compatible phones. When people take a selfie through WhatsApp, the app can fire off the flash to improve exposure. Other new features include a zooming tool within the video camera and easy switching between the rear and front cameras with a double tap on the screen.
WhatsApp says these new functions will reach Android devices in an update this week, with the iPhone following soon.
WhatsApp is free to download from the Google Play Store.
