A recent Windows Phone Dev podcast described to developers several new features that could be anticipated in the upcoming Mango Windows Phone update. Most notably will be an on/off soft-switch for the camera shutter sound and support for Microsoft’s Zune Smart DJ mix feature. Mango is expected to be released this fall.
Smart DJ takes a user’s preferences and then finds similar songs from a user’s collection or suggests new songs from the Zune Marketplace. Users can then create Smart DJ playlists and sync them to their phone. Smart DJ is similar to Apple’s Genius, but if a user also has Zune Pass, they can automatically stream or download and add similar tunes. Users also will be able to display on their lock screen which artist is now playing.
The camera on/off switch enables or disables the shutter sound that a phone makes when snapping a picture. Many users found the noise very annoying.
Other new Mango features recently leaked include support for AIM and Facebook, enhanced Office 365 synchronization and greater mobility in switching between devices while playing a game.
