Yahoo said its Yahoo News Digest application will make the jump from iOS to Android today. Yahoo first announced News Digest at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
News Digest delivers news in small chunks twice per day (8a and 6p). The app lets users customize the news items they want to receive, and delivers them to the phone automatically. Rather than seek long periods of active engagement, the idea behind News Digest is to provide concise summaries that users can digest quickly, allowing them to move on to other things. It is based on technology acquired by Yahoo when it purchased Sumly.
In addition to arriving on Android for the first time, Yahoo is expanding the availability of News Digest for iOS outside the U.S. The app is free to download from the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.
The new iOS version is already available, but the Android version has yet to go live.
