YouTube this morning made its live streaming plans official and indicated that it would start trials.
The testing starts at 11AM Eastern today with a live broadcast of Rocketboom and will run through only until late Tuesday. Google has been late to live video with Youtube and hasn’t said when it expects to make live YouTube a regular feature.
Youtube is following the same approach as a service like Qik or Ustream. Broadcasters only need a FireWire or USB video camera to stream. Viewers will have access to live comments for any ongoing show. YouTube hasn’t said if the live shows will be archived as regular YouTube clips, but it is believed that will be the case.
