Sony will not update its 2011 Xperia-branded smartphones to Android 4.1, Xperia Blog revealed, citing a number of Facebook replies from UK Product Manager John Cooper as proof. While Cooper only references the Xperia S, Xperia Arc S, and Xperia Mini Pro and that there are no plans to bring out Android 4.1, he does say that Android 4.0 has now been approved for all Xperia S handsets.
An Xperia S was spotted running on official Android 4.0.4 software as far back as the end of May.
The fact that the Arc S, as the flagship of the Xperia range, isn’t getting an Android 4.1 update leads many to believe that the others won’t get the update either.
The 2012 Xperia handsets should be updated to Android 4.1, however, though exactly when this will happen remains to be seen.
