Amazon has given the regular-size Kindle 2 a lift through a firmware upgrade. It now has the same native PDF support as the larger Kindle DX. The battery now last 85 percent longer and should last for about a full week with 3G turned on versus four days with the previous firmware.
The update will come with new Kindles and should be pushed for free to all of the second-generation readers through their 3G connection. First-generation Kindles should also get PDF support but won’t have the extended battery life.
