MGM and United Artists Releasing have announced that a sequel is in the works to this past weekend’s animated hit The Addams Family with a release date of October 22nd 2021 already set.
Budgeted at only $40 million, the Conrad Vernon-Greg Tiernan production based on the classic Charles Addams comic strip pulled in a four-day Columbus Day holiday opening of $35 million and beat out the high profile “Gemini Man” (which scored $23 million) for second place.
The all-star cast of the film includes Charlize Theron (Morticia), Oscar Isaac (Gomez), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Finn Wolfhard (Pugsley), Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester), Snoop Dogg (It), Bette Midler (Grandma), Allison Janney (Margaux Needler), Martin Short (Grandpa Frump) and Catherine O’Hara (Grandma Frump).
The first film also launched with a $150 million global promotional partner campaign involving over 30 consumer products licensees across twelve categories – MGM’s largest for a film outside of their James Bond franchise.
