Amazon today cut the cord with native Kindle apps with a beta launch of Kindle for the Web. Previously, Kindle books, even samples, were inaccessible outside of native apps.
The web base beta is currently focused on samples and gives authors or other writes a way of previewing a Kindle book. The design is touch screen friendly and allows users to buy a full book from the embed, which should make Amazon affiliates happy.
Plans on when the beta will end to wrap and when their will be the web edition optimized for mobile devices have not been disclosed. Amazon also hasn’t given any indications if it plans to offer full text in the web viewer. Amazon so far has characterized Kindle for the Web as a “discovery tool.”
