The 4.4.2 release of the Apple TV firmware is meant to consolidate fixes first offered in a troubled 4.4.1 update that was subsequently pulled and then re-instated due to a flaw in the update itself. Apple advises users to reset the Apple TV before applying the new update.
Both the 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 updates are said to fix sleep/wake issues and remote control problems, as well as provide subtitle support with Netflix and smooth out Airplay mirroring issues. If users do not reset their Apple TV units before applying the 4.4.2 update, the update itself will do this, requiring users to re-apply the update. Reports so far say that doing this appears to finally clear up the updating issues, which have been ongoing for most of the month.
