Owners of the current (known as “late 2010”) model 13-inch MacBook Air using OS X 10.6.7 have uncovered a strange bug: using iTunes (latest version) can cause the system to become unresponsive. Apple has today released a “supplemental” 10.6.7 update specifically for current-model 13-inch MBA owners that fixes the problem.
The issue had been widely reported on Apple’s support forums with users quickly figuring out that the 10.6.7 update on only the 13-inch MacBook Air model was the source of the issue.
Some users reported being able to overcome the problem by repairing permissions when started from “safe mode,” which points to a permissions-settings issue. This could also explain why the problem appeared to be model-specific: each update of Mac OS X is customized to the model it is being installed on.
Apple offered no explanation for the issue in its note accompanying the fix beyond simply recommending the update for all 13-inch current-model MacBook Air owners using 10.6.7.
