Following on from recent EFI updates for various MacBook Pro models, Apple this afternoon issued one specifically for the 15-inch, late 2008 model that resolves a graphics issue that can cause the internal display to flicker. The late 2008 MacBook Pro, also known as MacBook5,1 or MB470*/A or MB471*/A, was the first of the 15-inch “unibody” MacBook Pros with tapered sides like the MacBook Air.
The update can be applied to machines running either Leopard (10.5.8), Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or Lion (10.7.3), but only if they are running the latest or last updated versions of their respective operating systems. The file size is a mere 1.79MB but, as a firmware update, can only be applied while the notebook is connected to a power source and must not be interrupted while in progress. The update is available for all applicable MacBook Pros through Software Update or via Apple’s support website.
