Apple has released a minor firmware update for the second-generation Apple TV, v4.2.2. The patch is concerned exclusively with bugfixes and performance improvements. In the latter category, for instance, audio output can now be set to 16-bit, which enables compatibility with more TVs and AV receivers. Performance should be smoother when rewinding or fast-forwarding live events.
Fixes cope with missing audio or images when watching video, as well as missing descriptions when browsing through movies. When running the YouTube app, an Apple TV should now properly order subscription content by date. To install the firmware users must select the “Update Software” command under the General section of the Settings menu.
